Symplectic Elements is a software system used by research institutions to collect, understand, and showcase their scholarly activities.  Pitt uses Elements to deliver the Faculty Information System to our faculty, grad students, and support staff on our campus.  Pitt faculty and their delegates can easily update and manage the information in their Elements profiles.  Elements can be used to search for experts and collaborators, export data into convenient reports, and track publications and other scholarly work.

Profiles in the Faculty Information System are automatically created and populated with:

  • Basic directory information about the profile owner
  • Publication data that is harvested based on a researcher's unique identifiers (ORCID, Scopus, name, etc...)
  • Teaching activities from Peoplesoft
